If you’re running the FIW M&P 2.0 Selectable Assisted Reset System (ARS), proper installation and tuning are the key to unlocking consistent, reliable performance across all frame sizes and calibers.
The good news?
The tuning process is simple, repeatable, and only needs to be done once.
This guide will walk you through exactly how to dial in your system for optimal function.
Why Tuning Is Required
The M&P 2.0 platform varies significantly across:
- Frame sizes (full size, compact, subcompact)
- Calibers (9mm, .40, .45, 10mm)
- Internal tolerances
Because of this, the ARS system is intentionally designed with a tunable trip interface to ensure proper engagement with the slide and safety plunger across all configurations.
Installation Overview
- Install the ARS assembly fully into your M&P 2.0 frame
- Ensure all components are seated correctly
- Set the selector to SEMI mode before beginning tuning
⚠️ Do not begin tuning in any other selector position.
Tuning Process (Core Method)
The tuning process focuses on adjusting the trip tip geometry to achieve proper engagement.
Step-by-Step:
- Install the system completely
- Set selector to SEMI
- Mark the trip tip (Sharpie works perfectly)
- Cycle the slide to observe contact points
- Lightly sand the trip tip
- Repeat until proper engagement is achieved
Target Fitment (Critical Detail)
You want the trip to:
👉 Cover approximately 50% of the safety plunger
This is the sweet spot for:
- Reliable reset
- Smooth operation
- Proper disengagement timing
Material Removal Guidelines
Different configurations require different levels of tuning:
- 10mm Full Size → No material removal typically required
- .45 Full Size → Minimal to none
- 9mm / .40 Full Size & Compact → Light material removal
- Subcompact 9mm → Most material removal required
💡 Always remove small amounts at a time — you can always take more off, but you can’t put it back.
Common Issue: Trip Hanging in Semi Mode
Symptoms:
- System hangs or drags during cycling
- Resistance felt when returning to battery
- Inconsistent return to battery in semi-only mode
Cause:
The factory safety plunger spring is very stiff, which can:
- Push excessively against the trip
- Cause the trip to hang on the back of the slide
Recommended Fix
👉 Install a half-strength safety plunger spring
This results in:
- Smoother cycling
- Reduced drag on the trip
- More consistent reset behavior
This is especially helpful for:
- Smaller calibers
- Subcompact frames
- Systems requiring more tuning
Pro Tuning Tips
- Use fine grit sandpaper for controlled removal
- Keep surfaces flat and consistent
- Reinstall and test frequently during tuning
- Don’t rush — precision here = performance later
Final Check
Once tuned properly:
- System cycles smoothly in SEMI
- Reset is consistent and predictable
- No hanging or drag during slide movement
Why This System Stands Out
The FIW M&P 2.0 ARS isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution — it’s a precision-tunable system designed to work across multiple configurations while maintaining:
- Consistent geometry
- Stainless durability
- Long-term reliability
Designed by Voltz Prints and precision manufactured by Freedom Industrial Works, this system represents the next level of adaptable reset technology.
